Our Methodology

Data Sources

We use only official sources for our inflation data:

CBS (Statistics Netherlands)

For Dutch inflation figures, we use data directly from CBS, the national statistical office of the Netherlands.

OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development)

For international comparisons and data from OECD member countries, we use the OECD database, which collects standardized inflation data from national statistical offices.

World Bank

For countries not included in the OECD database, we use inflation data from the World Bank.

National statistical offices

The data originates from national bureaus such as Destatis (Germany), INSEE (France), ONS (United Kingdom), BLS (United States), and many others.

What Do We Measure?

Our inflation figures are based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the standard measure of inflation:

• The CPI measures the average price change of a basket of goods and services typically purchased by households.
• The basket includes categories such as food, housing, transportation, clothing, and recreation.
• The index is updated monthly by statistical agencies.
• Inflation is calculated as the percentage change in CPI compared to the same period last year.

Update Frequency

Our data is automatically updated daily as new figures become available from the sources. Dutch figures (CBS) are typically published around the 6th of each month. International figures (OECD) may be available a few weeks later.

Limitations

Please be aware of the following limitations:

• Inflation figures are based on averages and may not reflect your personal price experience.
• Historical data may be revised by statistical agencies.
• The composition of the consumer basket changes periodically.
• International comparisons may be affected by different measurement methods.
